PERFORMING ARTS

Founded in 1965, Theatre Bristol is the oldest children’s theatre in the entire region. Theatre Bristol presents musicals and dramas for adult and family audience while also maintaining a strong focus on education by offering classes and workshops.

Some of the special offerings at Theatre Bristol include the School of the Arts, a year-round curriculum of the performing arts for people of all ages; Showbiz Saturdays, an exploration of literature and drama for school-age children; and Teaching Artists in the Schools, a program that sends theatrical professionals into classrooms throughout the region.

The Paramount Center for the Arts, built in 1931 and restored in 1991, serves as a showplace for the arts in Bristol, featuring nationally known musicians, while hosting Broadway touring shows and presenting a varied performance line-up.

The Paramount offers its stage to local performing groups, including several ballet companies; Symphony of the Mountains, a regional orchestra; Voices of the Mountains, a regional chorus and; The Paramount Players, the area’s chamber music ensemble.

Over the past several years, Mountain Stage, an internationally aired weekly, two-hour live performance music radio program has featured some of the world’s greatest artists in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere with a live-broadcast edge. The Birthplace of Country Music® hosts Mountain Stage annually at the Paramount.
