Taking on various names and lyrical variations throughout time, In The Pines is one of the most enduring traditional American folk songs. Recorded by everyone from Bill Monroe to Nirvana, Lead Belly to Dolly Parton, In The Pines represents the lasting power of music across generations and genres.

Believed to have originated in the 1870s, a variant of the song was also recorded right here in Bristol by The Tenneva Ramblers under the moniker “The Longest Train I Ever Saw” during the “Big Bang” of country music at the 1927 Bristol Sessions.
